ALBERT SAME EKANG,
LOCAL DEVELOPMENT EXPERT
hEAD OF AFROBACK OPERATIONS, GERMANY
EBONG SONE NGUPE,
qUALITY MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL ENGINEER
HEAD OF AFROBACK OPERATIONS, CAMEROON
“AfroBack was born from a simple belief: authentic Cameroonian products should reach international markets without losing their quality, identity and value to the communities that produce them.”
Albert Same Ekang & Ebong Sone Ngupe, Co-Founders
AfroBack was born from a personal experience and a simple but important question.
While living in Germany, founder Albert Same Ekang regularly visited African food stores in search of the authentic Cameroonian products he had grown up consuming. However, he often found that many products did not meet the quality, taste and authenticity he expected.
Garri lacked the traditional flavour and texture familiar to many Cameroonians. Egusi was sometimes mixed with other ingredients or processed under questionable conditions. Products such as Bobolo and Ndolé occasionally contained sand, stones or other impurities. Palm oil often lacked the richness and purity associated with traditionally processed Cameroonian palm oil.
These experiences led him to ask a fundamental question:
**Why are authentic African products so difficult to find, even in stores that claim to sell African food?**
As he explored the issue further, another question emerged:
**Why should African products be sourced, processed and marketed primarily by others when Africa itself possesses the resources, expertise and entrepreneurial talent to do so?**
At the same time, back in Cameroon, farmers, producer groups, processors and rural families often struggled to find reliable markets for their products. Large quantities of agricultural produce were available, yet many producers lacked access to profitable and sustainable markets beyond their local communities.
Determined to find a solution, Albert Same Ekang began discussions with his long-time friend and business partner, Ebong Sone Ngupe, a Food Engineer trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Sciences Agro-Industrielles (ENSAI).
Together, they started brainstorming how to create a reliable system capable of sourcing, producing, processing, packaging, branding and exporting authentic Cameroonian food products from Cameroon to Germany and eventually to the wider European market.
The vision was simple but ambitious: build a business that would guarantee authenticity, quality and traceability while creating economic opportunities for producers in Cameroon and delivering trusted products to consumers abroad.
This model would create value on both sides.
Farmers, cooperatives, processors and manufacturers in Cameroon would gain access to larger markets, stable buyers and improved incomes. Members of the African diaspora would gain access to authentic products processed according to the standards and traditions they know and trust.
The idea also offered an alternative approach to supporting families back home. Rather than relying solely on financial remittances, members of the diaspora could empower their relatives economically by helping them participate in agricultural production, processing and supply chains linked to AfroBack.
From this vision, AfroBack was born.
Today, the AfroBack model is built around two complementary but legally independent business entities.
AfroBack SARL – Cameroon
Led by Ebong Sone Ngupe, AfroBack SARL is responsible for:
- Agricultural production
- Product sourcing
- Farmer engagement
- Processing and value addition
- Packaging and branding
- Quality assurance
- Export coordination
The Cameroon operation works closely with farmers, cooperatives, processors and manufacturers to ensure products meet the standards required for local and international markets.
AfroBack Afrikanischer Lebensmittelladen – Germany
Led by Albert Same Ekang, AfroBack Afrikanischer Lebensmittelladen is responsible for:
- Product importation
- Marketing and promotion
- Wholesale distribution
- Retail operations
- Customer service
- Market development across Germany and Europe
The Germany operation serves as the bridge between producers in Cameroon and consumers, retailers and distributors in Europe.
Together, the two entities contribute to a shared vision of building sustainable trade links between Cameroon and Europe while creating opportunities for producers, entrepreneurs and consumers alike.
AfroBack is more than a business. It is a practical response to the challenges of market access, product authenticity and value addition. It is a platform designed to ensure that authentic Cameroonian products reach international markets while creating jobs, supporting rural livelihoods and strengthening economic connections between Africa and its diaspora.
Our goal is simple: authentic products, fair opportunities for producers and trusted access for consumers.
THE AFROBACK DIFFERENCE
More Than a Food Business
AfroBack was founded on the belief that African consumers deserve access to authentic products, and African producers deserve fair opportunities to participate in international markets.
Our approach goes beyond buying and selling products. We are building a trade ecosystem that connects producers, processors, entrepreneurs and consumers across Cameroon and Europe.
Authenticity Over Imitation
Authenticity is at the heart of everything we do.
AfroBack was created in response to the growing challenge of finding genuinely authentic Cameroonian food products in European markets.
We believe consumers should have access to products that retain their traditional taste, quality and identity.
Whether it is Garri, Egusi, Ndolé, Bobolo, Palm Oil, Honey or other products, our objective is to preserve the characteristics that make these products unique and trusted by generations of consumers.

Direct Sourcing from Producers
Where possible, we seek to work directly with:
- Farmers
- Producer groups
- Cooperatives
- Processors
- Local manufacturers
By shortening supply chains, we aim to improve product quality, enhance traceability and create stronger relationships between producers and markets.

Fair Opportunities for Farmers and Rural Communities
Agriculture remains a primary source of income for millions of families across Cameroon.
AfroBack seeks to create reliable market opportunities that enable farmers and rural producers to benefit from the value of their work.
We believe sustainable trade should create value not only for businesses but also for the communities that produce the products.

Value Addition in Cameroon
Many African products are exported in raw form while much of the economic value is created elsewhere.
AfroBack supports local value addition through:
- Processing
- Cleaning
- Sorting
- Packaging
- Branding
- Product preparation
By strengthening value chains within Cameroon, we aim to contribute to job creation, skills development and local economic growth.

Traceable and Transparent Supply Chains
Consumers increasingly want to know where products come from and how they are produced.
AfroBack is committed to building supply chains that promote:
- Product traceability
- Supplier accountability
- Quality assurance
- Transparency
Our long-term goal is to ensure that products can be traced from producer to consumer.
